Following the postponement of the gas mains replacement project, SGN have written to me to inform us about the forthcoming replacement works to the local gas network in Dennis Park Crescent, Wimbledon Chase.
The project involves the replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. The contractor, Forefront Utilities will undertake this work on SGN's behalf.
The works will begin on Tuesday 4 January following agreement with the Council and are expected to last approximately 10 weeks.
SGN have been granted permission to temporarily close Burstow Road at the junction with Toynebee Road. Due to the nature of these works, it will not be possible to re-open the road outside of the working hours.
Access will be maintained for residents, however, they are encouraging all commuters to please plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
These works require SGN to work closely with the UK Government and public health bodies to make sure they're conducted in line with expert advice. There are extra safety precautions in place to protect SGN's workforce and our community from catching or spreading the virus as they carry out this safety-critical project. There’s more information about SGN's coronavirus response on their website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus
Once the engineers start work, they’ll be happy to assist and answer questions at any time during the project. Please remember to keep a safe distance when speaking to their team or passing the site.
None of us want to see roadworks and closed roads. It can be frustrating and SGN have asked me to pass on their thanks for everyone's patience and understanding, enabling the carrying out of these important works.
