This week, I'm sure many of you have taken part in 'Lights Out' commemorations across the country. I also attended Merton's World War 1 event at Morden Park. This was an incredibly moving occasion, with readings, poems and music remembering that first year of the 'Great War'. Many of those who headed off to war expected to be home by Christmas, sadly they were not, nor for the next three. At the start of this four year centenary, the words of John Maxwell Edmonds are especially poignant: 'When you go home tell them of us and say: for your tomorrow, we gave our today'.
From 2014 until 2018 there will be a series of projects across the Borough to commemorate the centenary of the Great War of 1914 - 1918.
