I am aware of a great deal of local concern surrounding the proposals for a nine-storey residential block next to Wimbledon Chase Station. Equally I have been aware of some local support for the application.
If the application is to be granted planning permission by the Council it must come with clear criteria for the benefit of local people. These will include full step-free access at Wimbledon Chase, financed by the developer, and redevelopment of the station, which is in need of a revamp.
Wimbledon is special, and no one wants to see it become the next Croydon. I recognise the need for local residents to be able to voice opposition and concerns as well as the need for new homes and accessible transport. I recognise this is a difficult balance to achieve.
I look forward to meeting further with local residents, the developers, and the team from Govia Thameslink Railway, to listen to their comments on this development and ensure we deliver the infrastructure and homes local people need and deserve.
