At Christmas time, many of us are fortunate enough to be able to surround ourselves with family and friends and to relax. Some, however are not so lucky. I have, in my time as your MP, been very lucky to be able to witness first-hand the kindness shown by members of the community at this time of year.
One such organisation is Wimbledon’s Doxa Deo Church which runs a project called ‘Christmas Lunch on Jesus’. This group, ably led by Ioannis Dekas and Ian Jacobs, make up Christmas food hampers and this year they will distribute over 500 of them throughout our area to people who are finding life tough. On Saturday morning, along with over 80 volunteers, I helped put together these boxes, which contain a turkey, vegetables, mince pies, chocolates, mince pies and non-alcoholic drinks.
They are just one of the many organisations and individuals who donate time and money to help those who are less fortunate. They are an inspiration to us all and I thank them sincerely for everything that they, and others, do.
