Labour councillors have broken yet another 2014 election promise by voting through an increase to the cost of parking permits for the owners of diesel vehicles. The levy will take effect in April, and starts at £90 in 2017/18, rising to £115 in 2018/19 finally reaching £150 in 2019/20.
This tax is considerably more expensive than similar policies in other London Boroughs, and has been opposed consistently by Merton’s Conservative Councillors.
This tax unfairly punishes those with diesel vehicles who do not have garages or off-road parking, typically those living in flats and smaller houses.
The Council must consult on this policy and representations against the proposals can be made to [email protected] by no later than 3rd February 2017 quoting reference ES/Diesel Levy.
