Last month, the Prime Minister announced a snap General Election for Thursday 8 June. Given the short notice, people may find it difficult to vote on the day because of other commitments. Therefore, I wanted to take this opportunity to email you about how to vote by post.
Anyone can easily register to vote by post.
- In order to register to vote by Postal Vote, you need to complete the below form and return it to Electoral Services, Merton Council, Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, SM4 5DX by 5pm on Tuesday 23 May.
- Once registered, you will receive your postal ballot paper after Monday 22 May. To guarantee your Postal Vote arrives in time to be counted, please try to post it by Monday 5 June 2017 at the latest.
- If it turns out that you are around on Election Day after all, you can take your completed postal vote envelope to the polling station.
If you are away over the whole election period, we can also help you register for a Proxy Vote, which would allow you to nominate a person to vote on your behalf. If you are interested in a Proxy Vote, or have any questions about applying for a Postal Vote, please call us on 020 8944 2905. The deadline to register for a Proxy Vote is Wednesday 31 May at 5pm.
Below you also can find some FAQs on Postal and Proxy votes.
This General Election is about how we secure the best deal for our country as the Brexit negotiations progress. This is a choice between the strong and stable leadership of Theresa May and a coalition of chaos with Jeremy Corbyn.
If re-elected I will continue to be your voice in Westminster, standing up for our area to ensure Crossrail 2 brings more capacity to Wimbledon and does not destroy our Town Centre, ensuring Morden Town Centre gets the regeneration it deserves, and delivering more investment in local healthcare and training for young people.
