Good local transport services benefit residents, businesses and the environment.
Thousands of you rely on the smooth running of our trains, buses and trams on a daily basis. Transport is not only an essential service, it is key to our local and national economy.
Reducing our reliance on cars and having accessible, reliable greener modes of transport is vital to reduce our carbon emissions and congestion.
That is why one of my priorities as your Member of Parliament has been to ensure we have accessible, frequent and comfortable public transport services.
We have seen great improvements since I was first elected in 2005. Including;
- Longer, airconditioned District line trains,
- A more frequent Northern line service,
- Upgraded Thameslink trains,
- Longer and more modern South West Railway trains
I want our all local stations to be made more accessible, including South Merton, Haydons Road and Wimbledon Chase, and to secure step-free access at Raynes Park and Motspur Park stations. I nominated all to receive extra funding this year and I will continue to make the case to Network Rail and the Government.
I will also continue to hold Transport for London and Network Rail to account for delays caused by issues such as signal failures, which cause misery for commuters. TFL and Network Rail must invest more in their infrastructure to address these problems.
If re-elected I shall continue to fight as your strong voice in Westminster for investment in our local transport links, to ensure they are accessible, reliable and provide the service you deserve.
