It’s always been an honour and privilege to be your MP. Throughout my 17 years I have always tried to keep Fridays as my day in the constituency. I thought you might be interested in some of the things I did locally, on Friday.
Royal Mail:
On Friday I had two meetings with Royal Mail. First, I met with local managers and Cranbrook Road residents to discuss problems they have had over the last two years with illegal parking.
Local residents expressed clearly their frustration that all too often Royal Mail vehicles are parked illegally on their road and there have been instances of anti-social behaviour.
I am pleased that the local management took this seriously and have promised to work with residents to find a solution.
I have proposed that Royal Mail work with the Council to make space for Royal Mail workers to park in local car parks. We have arranged a follow up meeting for six weeks’ time to discuss the progress.
Secondly, I met with Royal Mail CEO Simon Thompson and local management to discuss the delivery performance of the Wimbledon Office. This was the third in a series of meetings with Simon and their local team. I’m pleased that performance has significantly improved with Royal Mail hitting their 48-hour delivery target in almost all cases.
However, if anyone is still having issues with their service, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Concert Hall
I was excited to meet with Anthony Wilkinson who is hoping to bring a Concert Hall to Wimbledon. His innovative and world leading proposal would make Wimbledon a major cultural centre.
I will be working with him to try to persuade Merton Council to give their team an exclusivity deed on the lease so the Concert Hall can put financing in place.
Wimbledon Police Station
In my regular meeting with Chief Superintendent Elisabeth Chapple, I again, as ever, pressed the case to ensure Wimbledon Police Station remains open. Given the operational importance of Wimbledon Police Station to policing in Merton and Wandsworth I am hopeful The Mayor will have listened to our campaign and that the station will remain open.
Rutlish School Memorial Garden
On Friday afternoon it was an honour to be invited to the opening of the Memorial Garden at Rutlish School. The design of The Garden was a joint project between staff and students and is a tribute to Old Rutlishians (ORs). It will provide a further excellent facility for the school.
Along with several ORs and former teachers I was taken on a tour of the school. I want to thank the students for the enthusiastic and courteous manner in the way in which they looked after us.
