Please see below a message from Mike Bell, Chair, and Sarah Blow, Chief Executive of NHS South West London regarding the New Hospital Programme Announcement:
"Dear colleagues,
A Government announcement this afternoon has confirmed we are able to move forward with modernising Epsom and St Helier Hospitals and building a brand new emergency care hospital in Sutton.
We know our frontline NHS staff will be delighted with this long-awaited news. This commitment from Government will ensure our residents get the care they need, in buildings and facilities fit for the delivery of modern healthcare.
An investment of more than £20 billion has been specifically ring-fenced, on top of wider investment in hospital infrastructure, for the New Hospital Programme. It is now certain that we are set for a significant investment in our local NHS.
Under the plans for South West London, around 85% of current services will stay put at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals.
We welcome today’s announcement and look forward to working together with our colleagues at Epsom and St Helier to improve and protect the NHS now and for generations to come."
